Set in the beautiful tree-lined streets of Canterbury, this project sought to create a calm, green oasis for the clients. The front garden pays homage to the 1890s character of the home, with a semi-formal walk through garden.

The clients had an interest in Japanese style gardens, which was achieved through inclusion of essential elements such as water and stone, seen in the bluestone element of the water feature. This references the original foundations of the building, and has softened over time as moss has colonised its surface.

In the back garden the luscious greenery continues, with broad leafed plants such as Fatsia japonica providing interest. The focus was on layered foliage and natural materials, with clean lines and simple colours once again referencing Japanese garden traditions.

The end result is a tranquil space suitable for retreat and relaxation.
