Set down on the Bellarine Peninsula, this small garden is close to our hearts and even closer to the owners in Phil’s parents. A garden that brings the family out into the garden, whether it be Angela to potter and enjoy a little bit of gardening. Or the whole family sitting around the fire and toasting marshmallows with their beloved grand children.

The garden is made up of a natural palette that responds to the local area. As you walk out into the rear garden you stumble down into a sunken area that is defined by a curved blackbutt timber bench seat crafted beautifully by the build team from InStyle Gardens.

The fire pit area is then naturally derived from bluestone by local supplier Bamstone Bluestone. Natural rounds have been utilised for the surface and the natural steps (up to 3m pieces) have been carefully cut, whilst bluestone natural rocks have also been positioned into the edges of the paths to help define the area.

The plant palette has ben derived around a hardy biodiverse palette that looks to embrace the local conditions both native and exotic which looks to spill colour and texture throughout the seasons with plants such Aulux cancellata, Conostylis candicans, Teucrum fruticans, Eremophila glabra ‘Kalbarri Carpet’, Euphorbia myrsiniotes.

Highlights of architectural plant life help define places to lead your eye through the soft foliage with plants such as Brachychiton rupestris, Banksia integrifolia and Agave Americana.

Stepping up out of the the fire pit area you wander up to an area where the vegetation changes and becomes edible and full of use with espaliered citrus such as limes, oranges, lemons and a Spanish olive tree to the corner with easy to pick herbs to surround the base such as rosemary, thyme, oregano and parsley.

The garden has then looked to be wrapped in a grow frame which will soon be filled with native vegetation to create a feeling of natural surroundings.

Its a place thats full of colour, its a place that changes through the seasons, but more then thats it an place that will grow with the family and always be the place for the wider family to escape to and enjoy…
